Part II: Christian Dior Spring

Dior S/S 2010 Backstage & Beauty Shots
I'm sorry, I just can't get enough of it! I just found some really amazing photos of the models backstage. You can really see the clothing and makeup so much better!

Christian Dior Spring 2010

I love Dior! So, of course it was a treat to see that Style.com had the Spring 2010 collection posted. And even more awesome, Galliano's English hunt theme! Just seeing the first photo in the collection, I was already getting excited for the fashion editorials that would ensue!

While the whole "hunt" theme is not a new idea, I am really happy with Dior's take. As always, John Galliano brings his own theatrics and drama to each design. To me, it's the alternative to the more sophisticated and sometimes traditional designs of Ralph Lauren's equestrian style.

Amazingly tailored jackets, bustled skirts, and top hats speak to classic elegance, but Galliano pairs tradition with edge. Vampy makeup, leather gloves and riding crop ad a touch of burlesque.

The makeup and bride of Frankenstein hair also speak of gothic elegance.

Also loving the lace veil- notice the veil ties up at the back of the hat and streams down; awesome!

Since it's a spring collection, there were the obvious lacey pastel dresses and gowns as well, but what particularly stood out to me was Galliano's choice of bold and contrasting gem tones.

I liked the idea of this next dress- it's a sleekly tailored belted coat dress in a beautiful dark teal color. What makes it stand out is a texturally contrasting printed fabric- I can't tell if it's a wrap, or if it's actually a side panel in the dress. Either way, I thought it was cool.

Ahh!!! shoes!!

Okay, okay, so the name sounds dubious, but let me explain! Super cute vintage darling Twilla shared a link for Babygirl Boutique clothing. They specialize in rockabilly, vintage, indie, alternative, and retro fashions. I love their selection of Bordello shoes online... just wanted to share some of my faves...

From Bordello

And here are a few others from their shoe section that I thought were kind of cool:

I love all the straps and buckles, and of course patent leather going on, but there are a few things I would change about these guys. The solid red ones are okay, but the quilted ones could do without the little tattoo designs. They're cute, but I think they could be taken more seriously without the cutesy little stars and birds. I think the quilting pattern adds enough to them. The patent leather itself is either stitched or stamped to create the pattern. I think it would be cooler if they used actual netting instead, but then, it wouldn't be "quilted," it would just be covered in fabric lol...

She seriously has sooo many amazingly beautiful photos, I would highly recomend strolling through the pages of her flickr gallery. Like I said, it's mix of editorial work, candid home photos, stylistically shot landscapes/skyscapes and every day things. But trust me, flip through the whole thing and you'll see some really great stuff between the miscellany.
